Cab driver David Weekes turns Hackney carriage into Hackney hotel with Wimdu.co.uk.

London cabbie and Wimdu.co.uk host, David Weekes, plans on cashing in on the Olympics by renting out his taxi overnight

Hosting with Wimdu is a great way for me to earn some extra cash and was really easy for me to do. If being a cabbie doesn’t work out, I might just stick with hosting!

As the Olympics get ever closer, summer will be great for London but not so great for the city’s black cab drivers. With road access being restricted and Olympic-only lanes being built, the impact will be felt where it hurts the most – the wallet.

In a bid to combat a fall in fares, cab driver David Weekes has found a way of boosting profits and making the most of his taxi. Using the help of home rental website http://www.wimdu.co.uk, David has converted his cab into a Relax-A-Taxi – a mobile bedroom on wheels.

This fully functioning Hackney carriage has been redecorated to become the ultimate accommodation for the intrepid London tourist. Kitted out with a comfortable sleeping space, bedside lamp, curtains, solar powered radio, iPad and portable fridge, the taxi is a great way of seeing city sights. The Relax-A-Taxi even has a teddy bear, for those that need a little night time cuddle.

More than just a bed on wheels, Relax-A-Taxi lets you take in the best London landmarks, all from the comfort of your own bed. Guests also have the option of being driven to different locations during their stay - going to sleep outside the Olympic stadium one moment and waking up outside the London Eye the next.

Black cab driver David Weekes said, “I’m really excited that the Olympics are coming to the city but it’s going to be a nightmare for cab drivers. So when I heard that I could rent out my taxi on Wimdu, I thought it was a no-brainer - after all, who knows London better than a cabbie? Hosting with Wimdu is a great way for me to earn some extra cash and was really easy for me to do. If being a cabbie doesn’t work out, I might just stick with hosting!”

Karim Hardane, CEO of Wimdu UK said: “At http://www.wimdu.co.uk, our hosts strive to give guests a truly memorable experience. We are delighted to have David on board – he has proved that as long as you have a spare space, you can be a Wimdu host”.
