The toughest part, beyond starting, was staying motivated

When Randy L. Thurman was 50 years old, his doctor told him he was 40 pounds over weight. So he set a goal: lose the weight and run a marathon within the year. His new book “One More Step The 638 Best Quotes for the Runner: Motivation for the next step!” (published by iUniverse) offers some of the inspirational words that helped him achieve his goal.

According to Thurman “One More Step The 638 Best Quotes for the Runner” is “…the best motivational quotes for the runner ever put together.” He presents inspirational words from famous runners like Steve Prefontaine, Jesse Owens and Carl Lewis, and he also includes quotes from celebrities, authors and historical figures like Abraham Lincoln, Oprah Winfrey and Henry David Thoreau.

An excerpt from “One More Step The 638 Best Quotes for the Runner”:

“The toughest part, beyond starting, was staying motivated. I employed many mind tricks: I entered races, watched running DVDs, read running books, etc. What helped me most, besides entering races, was reading and memorizing motivational running quotes.”

Thurman hopes his book and the quotes he’s included motivate readers to take charge of their own physical fitness and start running. He says a little motivation – a little kick as he calls it – is sometimes all it takes to take that first step on the road to a healthy life.

“Get off the couch and get started,” says Thurman. “No matter how slow you are, you are always faster than the couch (or those on it).”
