The new book "High Holy Adventure: Shamans, Spirits & Mediums I Know and Love” (published by AuthorHouse) is author R. Alan Fuller’s authentic account of his final initiation by a renowned Peruvian shaman.
Fuller draws much inspiration from the work of Carlos Castaneda, who wrote many of the early works on this subject. Fuller takes the reader from high weirdness in the Nazca desert to an uncanny finale at 17,000 feet in the Andes Mountains. A sacred promise made to a shaman later collides with raw, on the flesh consequences that deliver the author into what he believes are the presence of miracles, receiving hands on instruction from a 400 year old saint via the full trance medium “John of God” of Brazil.
An excerpt from “High Holy Adventure”:
Shamans are masters of the ecstatic trance and whatever means they employ to get there, and in that capacity they can function as communication intermediaries between exalted realms normally outside the purview of our consciousness. They are not priests or religious representatives, and shamanism is not a religion. Real shamans have inherited sophisticated primeval practices originating from prehistory that are methods field-tested by countless generations to establish energetic links between our everyday experience and the invisible realm of the spirit. In this sense most especially, shamans exist as a living bridge between the realm of the invisible and the practical spiritual needs of the community they serve. From the exotic realms they travel within their ecstasies, shamans bring useful information and energetic effects to guide, to heal and to assist our day-to-day living as well as to serve our spiritual illumination.
In the end, Fuller hopes that readers will find the inspiration to “…live one’s own daring adventure; to realize that direct spiritual encounter is possible through disciplined pursuit and serious attitudinal commitment that can illuminate a path with heart.”
