San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) July 05, 2012
Who: Former San Francisco resident Kirsten Jacobsen and her partner Ronald Sciarrillo will share their combined 24 years of knowledge about living free of utility bills and building nearly carbon-zero homes.
What: As co-founders of the Earthship Academy with Michael Reynolds, Kirsten and Ron teach Earthship concepts and construction methods both at the Earthship Headquarters in Taos, New Mexico and on projects around the world. A slideshow of artistic and intriguing Earthships will accompany a discussion of how to build using natural and recycled materials such as used automobile tires and adobe mud. Passive solar heating and cooling, independent solar and wind systems, roof water harvesting, gray and black water treatment will be introduced. The talk will also cover Earthship Communities, international demonstration projects and the Sustainable Development Testing Sites Act.
An Earthship is the epitome of sustainable design and construction. For the past 30 years, Earthships have been, and continue to be built throughout the world, constantly being improved upon, incorporating every aspect of sustainability. They have proven comfortable in any climate, any landscape, any size and still provide electricity, potable water, contained sewage treatment and sustainable food production.
