Architectural Testing, Inc. (ATI) announces the addition of newly constructed vertical acoustical reverberation chambers for the purposes of testing horizontally-oriented ceiling tiles, pipe lagging systems, skylights, floor and ceiling systems and roof assemblies to their ever expanding scope of acoustical testing capabilities. The new facility expands ATI's existing laboratory and field acoustical testing services by six test methods, to now include the following: ASTM E 492 Standard Test Method for Laboratory Measurement of Impact Sound Transmission Through Floor Ceiling Assemblies Using the Tapping Machine, ASTM E 2179 Standard Test Method for Laboratory Measurement of the Effectiveness of Floor Coverings in Reducing Impact Sound Transmission Through Concrete Floors, ASTM E 1111 Standard Test Method for Measuring the Interzone Attenuation of Open Office Components, ASTM E 1414 Standard Test Method for Airborne Sound Attenuation Between Rooms Sharing a Common Ceiling Plenum, ISO 140-18 Laboratory measurement of sound generated by rainfall on building elements, and ISO 15665 Acoustics – Acoustic Insulation for pipes, valves and flanges.

“Similar to ATI’s horizontally-oriented acoustical reverberation chambers, efficiency of sample installation and testing has been engineered to maximize the testing experience at our facility”, stated Eric Miller, Director – Acoustics. Awareness of the acoustical environment has steadily increased over the past two decades resulting in increased demand for noise-isolating building elements, including acoustical performance criteria for schools and demising walls and floor/ceiling systems in multi-family dwellings. The most recent version of the International Green Construction Code (IgCC) also contains guidelines regarding minimum sound transmission loss ratings for interior walls and floor/ceiling assemblies as well as maximum permissible sound levels for various room types in many buildings.
