Following the announcement just last week that the Sony Xperia S is to become the latest smartphone to be updated to Android Ice Cream Sandwich, it’s now been revealed that a number of phones are having issues with the update.

Xperiasprice.com, the leading online updates site for the Sony Xperia S, can now reveal that the Ice Cream Sandwich update has experienced a number of problems, with dozens of handsets being unable to upgrade to the new firmware.

Sony, developer of the Xperia S, has just admitted that it has become aware of the problems. The Japanese firm issued a statement on its official website saying that certain handsets with an SI number that has been listed as being ready for the Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade had experienced difficulties in upgrading to the new firmware.

The company stated that it is working to fix the issue as soon as possible, telling customers to remain calm while they looked into the problem.

Dan Lim, editor of Xperiasprice.com, told Xperia S users that he thought the problem was not a major issue, and that he believed the company would address it soon:

“Our sources tell us that although some Xperia S users have experienced problems with the Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade, it’s not believed to be a major problem. The issue was that, when some users attempted to upgrade their phones, they were met with a message saying that their handset was already running the latest Android version, given as Gingerbread 2.3.7., which is obviously not the latest.”

“However, we can reveal that Sony are about to re-release the upgrade any time soon, which will let users download the correct version.”

Dan added that users should be patient, as they’ll have much to gain from the new firmware, including a number of enhancements to the user interface, and an extended battery life.

For the present, Dan urged owners to be patient and keep checking their device to see if the update was available.
