Songbird is a full-service restaurant with breakfast every morning, farm fresh lunch in the afternoon, fresh squeezed juice cocktails for happy hour and local NW style shared plates for dinner.

Songbird, a neighborhood eatery serving farm-to-table cuisine in the Mt. Tabor neighborhood of Portland, Oregon, is now open. The first week in July, Songbird will be open for counter service from 7am to 3pm. Full-service breakfast, happy hour and dinner will be added in by mid-July. Stumptown Coffee and Nuvrei pastries are a small sampling of the local highlights offered daily. There is a full bar serving artisan cocktails and coveted patio seating just in time for summer.

When restaurateurs Judy Sleavin and Peter Niland envisioned the concept of Songbird they “wanted to create a “go-to” morning espresso café for the neighborhood” says Judy, co-owner “but also to offer a versatile space that will attract a destination crowd not only for breakfast and lunch, but for happy hour, date nights and weekend brunch.”

Songbird will be filling a much needed neighborhood restaurant niche in Mt. Tabor, providing a casual atmosphere with northwest style cuisine and an accessible price point. Portland is known for its creative chefs and preference for eating local produce. Songbird is right on par. The new restaurant has also created a dozen new jobs; an obvious boon for the Portland economy.

To develop the Songbird concept Judy and Peter sought out the expertise of local talent, hand-selecting the culinary staff; Chef Nick Roberts has 14 years working in farm-to-table restaurants and has a penchant for Far East dishes such as complex Thai curries. Peter Niland, co-owner says “we’re counting on Nick to put the kick in our greens, and we also know Nick is determined to keep his eye (and his hands) on perfecting each Songbird dish.”

Designing seasonal, sustainable menus and wine pairings is Consulting Chef and Organic Food Curator Christine Finson, owner of Chanterelle Fine Foods. Managing the front of house is Patrick South, bringing 24 years of personalized service known from Ashland, OR to Isabel restaurant in the Pearl District of Portland.

The 30-seat restaurant is warm and contemporary and will be staffed by Judy and Peter, who are both the owners and builders of Songbird. The interiors, as well as the logo and branding, were designed by local interior design firm Bright Designlab and the interior was hand-built by Peter, who is not only co-owner of Songbird but also the General Contractor of Shift design build LLC.

Judy opened The Winds Café in 1977, a currently thriving restaurant in Yellow Springs, Ohio. She is excited to bring to life Songbird Neighborhood Eatery on Mt. Tabor.

Songbird is located in the Mt. Tabor neighborhood at 6839 SE Belmont St. Portland, OR 97215
