On July 2nd, 2012, Alec Baldwin tweeted his final message, “It’s been fun,” and deactivated his account. This comes two days after he wed fiancé Hilaria Thomas, who still maintains her Twitter account, @hilariabaldwin.
In a much publicized event on news and social media outlets, Alec Baldwin deactivated his Twitter account on Monday, July 2nd. He previously left Twitter in December after being escorted off an American Airlines flight for playing Words with Friends. Baldwin did not give a concrete reason for leaving the micro-blogging platform.
Alex Baldwin has mentioned to the press that he wants to lead a more private lifestyle after his current acting obligations are completed. “Baldwin has said that he will step out of the limelight after 30 Rock ends, so this is a logical step for him,” says Justin Maas, account manager at fishbat, a social media agency. “The timing isn’t that surprising since he just got married a couple of days ago. The reasoning behind this move could be an effort to keep his personal life more private.”
In this era, most celebrities have an active presence in social media. However, Alec Baldwin is not the first celebrity to leave Twitter; James Franco deactivated his account soon after hosting the Oscars.
