Much like the LGBT parents who have paved the way for us newer parents, Gay Parent magazine has pioneered our visibility. This fits perfectly with our media approach to provide homes for waiting children.

Since 1998, Gay Parent magazine has been the “go to” periodical for LGBT parents and prospective parents seeking resources and support. Today, it signed on as a media sponsor of RaiseAChild.US, a non-profit organization that encourages the LGBT Community to build their families through fostering and adoption.

“Gay Parent magazine reflects our lives as we live them,” says Rich Valenza, President & Founder of RaiseAChild.US. “Across the country, gay and lesbian parents can reach for the latest issue and read profiles of families who are making their way in a world that is just starting to recognize us.” Each print issue has an estimated 20,500 readers and draws over 400,000 hits online.

RaiseAChild.US recruits LGBT prospective parents to build their families through fostering and adoption. Its campaigns put images of LGBT parents and their children into public spaces through outdoor advertising and PSAs on television and radio.

Angeline Acain, publisher of Gay Parent magazine, is a gay parent herself. “I created the magazine out of my own need for support as a new parent. After nearly 15 years, I am proud that we have told the story of an evolving community.”

“Nearly half of our readers are prospective parents learning about their options,” says Acain, explaining why Gay Parent magazine is partnering with RaiseAChild.US. “For many of them, fostering and adoption will be the perfect fit to build their families. We are proud to help get the message out that many children are waiting for safe and loving homes.”

RaiseAChild.US is working with Human Rights Campaign Foundation's “All Children - All Families” initiative, which provides professional training and technical assistance for implementing inclusive policies and best practices for working with LGBT foster-adoptive parents. Recruitment events and media campaigns will be rolled out on the East Coast, Midwest and West Coast in November for National Adoption Awareness Month.

The “All Children – All Families” initiative, launched in 2007, promotes policies and practices that welcome LGBT foster and adoptive parents. The program seeks to enhance LGBT cultural competence among child welfare professionals and educate LGBT people about opportunities to become foster or adoptive parents to waiting children. To date, ACAF has over 50 participating agencies across the country, and has awarded 18 seals of recognition. Last year HRC launched a “50 state strategy,” with the goal of securing at least one ACAF-recognized adoption agency dedicated to working with LGBT families in every state.
