Steps like talking to family and friends of other residents, staying alert, and watching for changes in procedures, can be crucial in the process of assuring proper care.

SL Chapman nursing home neglect lawyers are suggesting that those with loved ones in nursing facilities remain steadfast in monitoring and keeping up to date with care levels in these facilities. In a recent national seminar focused on nursing homes, as reported by AP Newswire, experts reiterated an epidemic that is impacting elder care facilities nation wide: nursing home management cutting operational and care-giving costs.

Illinois nursing home abuse attorney Brad Lakin reinforced the point that “doing your homework” is one of the most critical steps in (not just choosing a care facility, but) monitoring levels and standards of care after the resident is admitted. Lakin said, “Steps like talking to family and friends of other residents, staying alert, and watching for changes in procedures, can be crucial in the process of assuring proper care. If you have questions, never fear asking…and continue asking until you get an answer.”

The firm’s nursing home abuse team points out that experts suggest communication is of key significance to monitoring and ensuring the highest level of care for residents of nursing homes. This means families and friends of nursing homes residents should communicate regularly with their loved one, as well as the nursing home staff.

“Fortifying communication between all involved parties allows those of us with family or friends in an elder care facility to be ‘on top’ of the operations and treatment being provided, as well as making it known to staff the resident has an advocate looking out for them,” said Missouri nursing home neglect attorney Robert Evola. Implementing good communication also provides comfort and reassurance for the resident. Nursing home specialists note that, if a cause for concern or issue with care arises, it is of imminent importance to document all communication, actions, and attempts at resolution.
