Serena Williams once again dominated Centre Court at Wimbledon to capture the coveted trophy for the fifth time in the South Florida resident’s tumultuous tennis career.

Williams, who lives in BallenIsles in Palm Beach Gardens, collapsed to the grass at the All England Club in London after scoring the championship point and defeating Polish opponent Agnieszka Radwanska. The victory ended two years of loses and disappointments onset by a foot injury in 2010.

Williams battled back and set a record in the process – 102 aces throughout the two-week tournament at speeds up to 115 miles per hour. The crowning victory marks her 14th major win.

After rejoicing on the court, Williams flew up the stands and found her family, exchanging emotional hugs with her father, Richard, her sister, Venus – also a BallenIsles resident – and her mother Oracene Price. Tears flowed.

Observers applauded the loving reunion as they witnessed sports history: The sisters from the inner city of Compton, Calif., have won 10 of the last 13 Wimbledon trophies.
