Pacific Sunrise Ventures LLC has launched a network of experienced food safety consultants (http://www.CertificationFoodSafety.com) to help food growers, manufacturers, processers, packagers, distributors and retailers become certified under worldwide standards approved by the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI).
In response to growing concerns about food safety as a consequence of numerous deadly recalls, Congress passed the Food Safety Modernization Act last year, which is administered by the FDA. The Act endorses the creation of standards and guidelines to enhance the safety of the nation’s food supply, ensure traceability and expedite food recalls if necessary. The FDA acknowledges the worldwide food safety standards approved by the European-based GFSI (PrimusGFS, FSSC 22000, IFS, SQF and BRC), and will work closely with them. Many of the world’s largest retailers, such as Wal-Mart and Target, are already requiring their food suppliers to be certified to one of the GFSI recognized standards.
The advantages to food providers of achieving a food safety certification are access to expanded markets, reduced liability and enhanced profitability. GFSI approved certifications are accepted worldwide. An estimated 40,000 to 50,000 food-producing sites in the United States will seek food safety certification to one of the GFSI benchmarked standards. Without the proper certification, food providers, processers, packagers, distributions and retailers may eventually find themselves locked out of commercial markets.
The Food Safety Consultants network provides a valuable service in satisfying the increasing demand for experienced consultants to help companies in the food supply chain prepare for certification audits. Pacific Sunrise Ventures teams with carefully-screened, seasoned consultants to help clients create approved food quality management systems in preparation for audits by authorized certification bodies.
“We help food providers define their needs and then provide onsite training and consulting solutions guaranteed to result in certification under a GFSI approved standard,” explains Al Kernek, co-founder of Pacific Sunrise Ventures. “Our principals and consultants have strong backgrounds in food safety.
