I’m delighted to be involved with the NIKE Global Challenge which is enabling some of the best young basketball players in the world to develop their skills further.

Dr. Lawrence Singer will be taking his skills to the world stage when he acts as the official dentist at the NIKE Global Challenge in Washington, DC this week (13-15 July).

As an expert in dental and facial trauma, Dr Singer is responsible for treating any such injuries that may occur at the three-day basketball tournament, which sees three teams of the best USA high school students take on the cream of under-19 talent from around the world.

Dr. Singer, of DC Smiles with practices in both Washington, DC and Alexandria, VA, is an Assistant Clinical Professor at The George Washington University Hospital where he is on call for all manner of dental and facial trauma such as knocked-out teeth, broken facial bones, damaged teeth and jaws. While the organizers of the much-anticipated NIKE Global Challenge aren’t expecting injuries at the event, they have appointed a maxillofacial trauma expert to provide the up-and-coming athletes with the best possible care, in case it’s needed.

Episcopal High School in Alexandria, VA and Washington, DC Armory in the capital are the locations for this basketballing showcase, to which tickets are free. Regional teams including USA East, USA Midwest and USA West will take on sides from Basil, Canada, China, Lithuania and Puerto Rico under FIBA rules, just like at the Olympics later this month in London.

Dr. Singer comments: “I’m delighted to be involved with the NIKE Global Challenge which is enabling some of the best young basketball players in the world to develop their skills further. I’m not foreseeing a problem with injuries but, as with any sporting event, they can happen and it’s best to be prepared in case they do. If any player has a dental or facial injury I’ll be on-hand to ensure they get the care they need.”

Besides being highly-regarded in emergency dental care, Dr. Singer is skilled in cosmetic, implant, reconstructive and general dentistry. He earned a bachelor of science in Human Development from Vanderbilt University and a doctor of medical dentistry degree from the University of Pennsylvania, School of Dental Medicine. In addition to treating patients at his private practices, Dr. Singer has served as Assistant Clinical Professor at the University of Pennsylvania, instructing doctoral candidates in all aspects of restorative dentistry.
