Custom SLR, a design company creating products that improve the shooting experience for photographers, has opened its new offices, co-located with the facility manufacturing the company’s new products. The larger space provides room for Custom SLR’s growth, and shortens design-to-production cycles. Custom SLR now employs more than 50 people in the US and abroad. The company remains bootstrapped and was initially started with funding from Kickstarter.com, a crowd funding platform for creative projects, and individual backers who supported their projects.

“This new space keeps us focused on the future and helps us get quality products to the market faster,” said Ivan Wong, Chief Operations Officer, Custom SLR. “We are repeatedly asked why we manufacture here instead of moving everything overseas. Having our hardware made in the USA, and moving physically closer to the manufacturing floor makes us the company we want to be. It feels good to know that our success continues to help our community and keep jobs here in America.”

In conjunction with the move, Custom SLR is expanding the manufacturing line, adding three CNC machines to meet increasing demand for the company’s products. Custom SLR has steadily grown with each product launch, and has additional products in development. While the popularity of the existing product line has given the company confidence, it is working hard to increase its efficiency and scale in the face of increased competition.

“There are many tools and resources available today that make it far easier for budding entrepreneurs with good ideas to build a company, and we’re a good example of how people can quickly achieve success by getting their product ideas into production and into the hands of customers,” said Wong. “We are excited about the creativity and activity in photo accessories right now, but understand we have to move fast, produce top quality gear and solve real problems with our products to continue to be successful.”

Custom SLR recently launched the M-Plate Pro universal tripod plate system, joining the C-Loop strap mount, Glide Strap for cameras and Camera Split Strap in an integrated system that makes handling a camera easier and safer.
