ChildGuardOnline, an innovative technological method for verifying parental consent and Xtify, the leading provider of mobile engagement technology for mobile application publishers, announced a partnership that will offer added protection to mobile apps directed toward children under 13 years of age.
Recently, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) proposed modifications to The Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) which will require mobile application providers to disclose how personal data collected from children will be used, as well as obtain consent from parents prior to collection of any personal information. These provisions already exist for website operators and online services, however the recent proliferation of mobile applications has caused the FTC to expand COPPA rule into the mobile app industry.
ChildGuardOnline was launched earlier this year by Imperium - an established industry leader in fraud prevention and identity validation solutions. The service consists of patent-pending technology that employs numerous anti-fraud checks and balances to effectively validate the identity of parents or guardians before a child’s request to use a website is approved. ChildGuardOnline also enables parents to review the sites they have approved for their children and revoke approval if desired.
“The combination of ChildGuardOnline and Xtify provides a next generation solution for mobile app publishers to safely engage with children,” said Marshall Harrison, Founder and CEO of Imperium. “More importantly, our services help to support industry initiatives aimed at safeguarding mobile app usage among children,” he added.
Josh Rochlin, Xtify’s Chief Executive Officer, added, “Xtify is committed to preserving consumer privacy while simultaneously providing the best segmentation and targeting mechanisms for marketers to connect with their mobile audience. By integrating ChildGuardOnline into the Xtify platform, our clients gain assurance that interactions with us are in compliance with COPPA regulations.”
