The survey allows small businesses to examine their understanding of the new crowdfunding regulations, platforms involved and degree to which they need to develop their own “crowd.”

The beauty of crowdfunding for small businesses is that no matter how small or how large your capital needs are (up to $1 million), you can now pursue them without going through the traditional banking system or Wall Street IPO maze. Small businesses will be able to approach friends, family, venture capitalists, anyone that might be interested in investing in their business. This survey helps them determine where to start.

Crowdfunding initially gained popularity in the US with non-equity, contribution sites like Kickstarter and Indiegogo, which catered largely to creative projects. With the new regulations in place, newer crowdfunding platforms will assist small business ventures looking for start-up or expansion capital. Small businesses will be able to raise much-needed funds from up to 500 investors, who receive equity in the company in return.
