“We have an all volunteer organization so getting approval to purchase a state-of-the-art scheduling system wasn’t easy,” says Lieutenant John Keller of Ashland Volunteer Rescue Squad, Ashland Virginia.

Employee scheduling options have come a long way yet many agencies in the public sector still use paper calendars or the whiteboard, method to schedule their employees and volunteers. The primarily reason is because their budget doesn’t allow them to purchase a better system. “We have an all volunteer organization so getting approval to purchase a state-of-the-art scheduling system wasn’t easy,” says Lieutenant John Keller of Ashland Volunteer Rescue Squad, Ashland Virginia. “However the cost savings in paper, the environmental savings and the affordability of the yearly subscription rate of EMS Manager made me realize we couldn’t afford not to do it.”
Serving the area for over 60 years, AVRS has already seen improvements within their operation since they started using EMS Manager. Not only do they use it for online scheduling, but they also find the other features very beneficial. They use the Event Calendar for assigning nightly chores at the station and the reporting and tracking features allows them greater efficiencies within the agency. “EMS Manager makes it easier for us because we are all volunteers. We have other things to do such as school and work. Being able to access everything anywhere makes it easier to do things within the system while outside the station,” adds Keller.
Having heard about EMS Manager from the Purcellville Volunteer Rescue Squad and seeing them use it, Adam Harrell, President, Halifax County Rescue Squad Inc. knew it would fit his organization's needs. “ We are very happy with the checks and balances associated with the vacation and shift trade requests too. The software is very simple to use and provides volumes of information for planning and reporting purposes. Implementation took us less than a week,” explains Harrell.
Serving approximately 30,000 people across 820 square miles, the Halifax agency has found the Mobile Web App to be very helpful as well. Harrell indicates using EMS Manager from a mobile device keeps their 50 volunteer members and 15 paid members well informed and enables them to all view the same information at all times.
