Houston Periodontist - Anna Munne, DDS

I have a great respect for our planet and nature. We are having rising energy issues and waste disposal problems. I believe that we all have a responsibility to take action at a personal and professional level.

Houston, TX. (PRWEB) July 11, 2012

Anna Munne, DDS has recently built her dental office following green building guidelines and complying with eco-dentistry recommendations. Houston periodontist, Dr. Munne aims to serve her patients in a clean, quality-oriented environment that not only suits their dental needs but supports a wellness lifestyle in using materials that naturally work with our environment.

“I have a great respect for our planet and nature. We are having rising energy issues and waste disposal problems. I believe that we all have a responsibility to take action at a personal and professional level. Green dentistry is the take action answer to our problem. I choose to do my best at the professional level in regards to energy, waste, and materials selection,” stated Dr. Munne.

In order to reach the goal of practicing green dentistry, Dr. Munne designed her building using many eco-friendly materials. Many of the walls are painted with American clay and the office is insulated with high-grade insulation so as not to need to run the air-conditioning or heat heavily during the drastic Texas seasons. The bamboo floors do not negatively impact forestry, and the office uses natural light when possible and energy efficient light bulbs otherwise. The elevator is made out of recycled materials and can be recycled later. The practice is also conscious of the waste that leaves the building and takes care in filtering their water coming in and out.

Dr. Munne explained, “We have a filtration system for amalgam, which would take mercury and silver to waste water as well as we disinfect the suction lines to decrease biofilms or bacteria growing in the water waste lines.”

Along with the building itself being largely made of and run on environment-friendly materials, the team utilizes biodegradable and non-toxic cleaners and disinfectants. They also minimize the use of disposable items and choose to sterilize when possible over disposing of items. Although being green is of high importance to Dr. Munne, patient safety remains their top priority.

According to Dr. Munne, “First and foremost we uphold all the Texas State Board, OSHA and Infection Control requirements. When possible, and if the eco-friendly substitute is equal or higher in efficiency, we would implement the substitute. Unfortunately, there are still certain products that have not been outdone by any eco-friendly alternative and we still use them because there are still the best for our patients and staff.”

Dr. Munne offers periodontal and cosmetic dentistry procedures such as soft tissue oral surgery including crown lengthening, lip repositioning, gum augmentation, oral cancer screenings, and dental implants to Houston TX residents.
