In an informal survey conducted with site visitors, Knoji found a high level of satisfaction with the results of using photo scanning services to restore and preserve physical photos.

72% of respondents would recommend the photo scanning service they used to friends and family.

In a recent survey run on the Knoji consumer knowledge website, consumers reported high satisfaction with their experiences using photo digitization services from companies such as ScanCafe, iMemories and ScanFlurry. These photo scanning services accept mailed-in boxes of physical photos and video tapes and then restore, enhance and digitize the media onto DVDs or similar media and send it back to the consumer. The services are designed to save time and effort in what would otherwise be a painstaking and time consuming effort for people to scan and digitize old photos and videos. Consumers are also thus protected from loss of old memories from natural disasters, theft or natural deterioration over time of physical media.

Knoji, a consumer website dedicated to providing a social medium for feedback on companies and products, conducted a site survey to assess consumer feedback on commonly-used photo scanning services. The survey was a non-scientific survey, with self-selected respondents made up of visitors to photo-scanning related articles on Knoji.com. The survey targeted consumers who had used a scanning service to digitize their own photos and videos, with the objective of assessing overall level of satisfaction with these services. Although inferences about relative performance can be made from the data, the survey was not designed specifically to assess comparative metrics between these services, just to measure consumer satisfaction as a whole. 22 respondents completed the survey.

Overall reported satisfaction with photo scanning services was high. When asked whether they would recommend the photo scanning they used to friends and family, 72% responded yes. 85% responded that they would use the service themselves again. Image quality of the final scanned photos was the most impressive to respondents, with 28% of respondents awarding their service with the highest marks on a five point scale for Image Quality. Attributes which performed lowest for photo scanning services included Value / Cost of Services and Turnaround Time.

Of note in the survey were positive comments made by several respondents on the results of photo restoration services provided by the various photo scanning companies. One consumer who had used ScanCafe's photo restoration service to repair water marks on old photos said that he was "surprised that they could fix the visible marks so that they looked like new." Another respondent, a customer of iMemories remarked that she "was extremely pleased" with the results of color enhancement of a set of faded photos from the 1970s. One consumer who used ScanFlurry's video digitization services was "very excited to see the detail and clarity in what I thought assumed were lost video on old damaged VHS tapes."
