Diablo 3 gamers will soon have the ability to trade commodities in the real-money auction house, according to latest rumours. A recent post from community manager Kaivax revealed that gold trading is set to be enabled at some point in the future, although this won’t be included the game’s next update.
iDiablo3news.com, the leading news and updates website for best-selling PC game Diablo 3, confirmed that the option to trade gold as a commodity will be introduced in an effort to keep more players interested in the game for longer.
The news comes at a time when developer Blizzard admitted it is experiencing difficulty with player retention. Numerous gamers have complained about Diablo 3’s lack of end game content.
Blizzard had previously anticipated that the Inferno difficulty level, which players can only access after completing the game, would ratchet up the challenge significantly enough for many players to stick around for several months, but that appears not to have happened.
iDiablo3news.com revealed that many players have found that the loot-driven endgame in Diablo 3 just isn’t enough to keep gamers playing.
In response, Blizzard are to release a PVP patch which they hope will address gamers’ concerns, but even that is unlikely to keep player for the long-term.
Dan Lim, editor of iDiablo3news.com, told gamers that the new commodity trading update was just what Diablo 3 needed:
“It’s a lot of fun going around, killing enemies and hunting for items, but even so it’s obvious that this alone is not enough to provide a sustainable long-term end game. By adding the ability to trade commodities, Blizzard is bring a whole new element to the game, and we hope that this will be sufficient to keep gamers interested for much longer than the game is doing right now.”
iDiablo3news.com announced that the following commodities were likely to be made available to buy in the real-money auction house:
- Blacksmithing plans and jeweler designs
- Crafting materials
- Pages of Training
According to iDiablo3news.com, things haven’t reached a tipping point yet. The website insisted that there were still “thousands” of gamers playing each and every day of the week, but admitted that eventually they’ll run out of things to do.
