"Today's students seek out online, interactive learning tools for complex visual topics like human anatomy."

Jefferson College, a two-year community college in Jefferson County, Missouri, is providing online anatomy learning tools from Primal Pictures for students in its newly launched Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) Program. Every Jefferson College student entering the PTA program will use Anatomy & Physiology Online, an interactive, 3D, digital learning tool for their required two semesters of Anatomy & Physiology. Developed by Primal Pictures, Anatomy & Physiology Online includes 19 learning modules with 3D images and interactive models, narrated animations and illustrations, dissection slides, clinical case studies, aging impact visuals, a pronunciation guide, quizzes, and 60 hours of lab activities.

“As we launch this new educational program, we were looking for state of the art tools to effectively engage our students in their learning processes,” says Bridget Webb, Program Director of the new Physical Therapist Assistant Program at Jefferson College. “Human anatomy is critical to the work of a PTA, and the 3D virtual learning via Anatomy & Physiology Online will prepare our students in a highly visual way to work in the growing field of physical therapy.”

“Today’s students are often more comfortable with online learning, and many want interactive learning tools for complex, visual topics such as human anatomy,” said Peter Allen, Managing Director for Primal Pictures. “Jefferson College is taking an innovative leap for this new program, and we are happy to partner with them as they take this important step.”

Jefferson’s new PTA Program is funded by three-year grants awarded by the state of Missouri in order to help community colleges prepare more Missourians for careers in high demand fields. Jefferson College will also use Anatomy & Physiology Online for courses in its newly launched Respiratory Therapy and Occupational Therapy Assistant Programs, funded by the same grants.

Primal Pictures developed its 3D models using real medical scan data to create a highly detailed model. Anatomy & Physiology Online offers 3D anatomy that can be peeled away, rotated and labeled, along with narrated animations of physiology, learning objectives, self-testing, summary text, and pronunciation guides. It includes hundreds of lab activities to be performed by the student as they learn, ranging from labeling exercises to online quizzing and coloring pages.

Primal Pictures offers the most complete, detailed and medically-accurate 3D model of human anatomy for students, educators and health care practitioners. Primal Pictures’ 3D anatomy software is widely adopted in education and it is used for patient, practitioner and student education in over 20 countries. In 2012, over half a million students will learn anatomy using Primal software. A&P Online recently won the British Medical Association’s annual prize for the best digital resource.
