Crystal Ski, who offer ski holidays to the Quebec resort of Tremblant, learnt that the brand new Hôtel La Ferme is able to accommodate 500 guests across its 145 rooms and lofts close to the Le Massif ski area. Le Massif is about 450km north east of Tremblant, and was known as a quirky mountain that transported skiers up the mountain by buses rather than lifts. 10 years ago the resort was to reshaped and updated, now boasting the longest downhill vertical drop in Eastern Canada at 770 metres, and the super-steep La Charlevoix run, as well as its striking views over the St. Lawrence river.
Guests of the Hôtel La Ferme can enjoy the use of the hotel’s own ‘public square’, spa and gym. Dining options include three restaurants with three price levels; Les Labours for gourmet dining, Le Café du Marché for quick market-fresh bites and Le Bercail, a bar-lounge. The rooms operate in a similarly tiered system ranging from the budget option of dormitory rooms to deluxe lofts with king beds. The hotel’s green features include a geothermal heating and cooling system and a water and rainwater collection programme.
According to the hotel's general manager, Richard Germain, the hotel “genuinely stands apart due to its highly original design. We’ve adopted a pavilion approach reminiscent of the site’s bygone farm buildings. In this way, guests can stay in one of our five different pavilions – each with its own modern signature, specific architecture, decor and original atmosphere – so that from one visit to the next; they’re treated to an entirely new visitor experience.
“(Along with)… our pledge to local artists, artisans and suppliers for hotel interior appointments – we wanted to do our share for the environment, and for the local economy,” explains Richard Germain.
The hotel also forms the terminal of the new luxury touring train that travels regularly to Charlevoix from Québec City. The Le Massif de Charlevoix train, popular from 1919 to 1959, took a spectacularly scenic rail route which has now been resurrected. Updated to include the latest gadgets, the ultra-modern train is decorated with deluxe interiors, large panoramic windows and such high-tech toys as iPads and video streaming. The departure station is a newly built station at Parc de La Chute Montmorency, northern Quebec City, and the train journeys to Le Massif ski area in winter.
