Launched yesterday, App Idol is a new competition run by iPhoneAppCafe which opens the doors of app development to anybody with a great idea. The winner, as chosen by a panel of four top app entrepreneurs including Locassa CEO Simon Lee, will get $1000 in prize money as well as the chance to see their app produced and taken to market. Once launched the winner will also share in the profits of the app making the total prize value very high.
Simon Lee, CEO of Locassa, a London-based app development firm, explains the benefits to such a competition, "Many people have great ideas, but sadly the cost of app development can end up being too costly for people to see those ideas come to fruition. With App Idol, anyone with a great idea now has the chance to see it brought to market, and that's a very exciting prospect for many people.". Simon joins a panel of judges, alonside Chris Maddern, Rob Shoesmith and Alex Cequea, all of which are successful entrepreneurs in the mobile market. "The judging panel is comprised of some really great individuals in the world of apps; the winner will not only be getting their idea produced but will also gain a great insight into our industry and receive guidance from all of us. It's a great opportunity.", Simon continued.
"Not many people know how to create an app, but with App Idol they don't need to. We strip away all of the complexity and take their idea, work with them to shape it and produce something amazing. It's very exciting.", said Simon. Locassa were chosen by iPhoneAppCafe to be their development partner due to their track record of taking great ideas and turning them into amazing apps. Simon explains their philosophy, "We get as excited about our clients ideas as they do, it's the only way you end up with something amazing. You have to put yourself in the users position and say 'how would I want to use this?', it's too easy to work from a purely technical viewpoint and sadly if you do that the end result clearly shows it. We love apps and we love mobile devices and we put all of that passion into everything we do."
