"Benefits of Using Scientifically-Based Selection Tools over Traditional Methods"
Organizations are on an endless pursuit to attract, hire and retain the right employees capable of being continually developed to operate more effectively and efficiently. Although the goal is to select the highest quality candidates, the most qualified aren't always hired. A poor hire can weigh down the entire operation, if the individual leaves or is fired, the company must invest even more resources to refill the position. However, when HR professionals have a more objective method for hiring, instead of traditional selection methods, they can identify the best employees from the start, before they are even hired.

During this session, Stacie Young, talent measurement consultant for TALX assessment division, pan, will discuss how valid, scientifically-based selection tools, such as selection assessments and behavioral interviews, help to reduce turnover and improve quality of hire. Participants of this session will also learn how selection assessments and behavioral interviews are powerful indicators of job performance; how such tools result in more consistency and fairness; and the cautionary points to keep in mind when implementing an assessment strategy.

"Using Assessments throughout the Employee Life Cycle"
Too often, organizations treat new hires as blank slates when rich information has already been gathered during the selection process, which can facilitate new hire onboarding and training. When used throughout the employee life cycle, assessment results can shed light on new hires' training needs and help managers better understand their employees' work habits, learning styles, strengths and weaknesses.

In this session, Gerry Groe, managing director of Business Development for TALX assessment division, pan, will explore the many benefits of using assessments throughout the talent life cycle – not only enhancing the hiring and onboarding processes, but also facilitating ongoing employee development and team building. He will also describe how assessments can pinpoint existing skill gaps in younger talent to provide appropriate training to prepare these employees for future roles within the company, identify a potential leader's possible derailers and determine his or her impact on the organizational culture.

Attendees will hear real-world examples of organizations using assessments to develop and retain talent, and they will be invited to share their own experiences when using assessments outside of selection with current employees.
