Over the years, SCOLA has amassed a wealth of international language resources and materials. We want to make this broad spectrum of information more accessible to our clients, while making the user experience more dynamic and interactive.

SCOLA, a non-profit organization, helps people around the world learn about other cultures, languages, and ideologies, has selected Baldwin Hackett & Meeks, Inc. (BHMI) and Attivio to unify access across its vast array of multi-language learning resources. BHMI is a proven software services company that designs, develops, implements, and supports enterprise applications for businesses in a wide range of industries. Attivio's award-winning Active Intelligence Engine® (AIE) seamlessly integrates internal and external structured data and unstructured content sources to rapidly provide a more dynamic and engaging online experience.
A key aspect of SCOLA’s mission is to leverage modern information technology to overcome language barriers. SCOLA provides a wide range of subscription-based language learning services, including international online TV, videos, radio, and newspapers in over 175 native languages, via a secure browser-based application.
Currently, subscribers can search one media content type at a time; however, SCOLA wanted to provide an advanced user experience in which a single query would return all relevant results, regardless of source or format.
SCOLA approached BHMI to help identify a technology solution that could be integrated with its web portal and span all of its disparate, multi-language information sources, enabling users to quickly find specific, relevant content. Recognizing that a legacy search solution would not satisfy SCOLA’s requirements, BHMI recommended Attivio’s Active Intelligence Engine, the leading unified information access platform.
“Over the years, SCOLA has amassed a wealth of international language resources and materials,” said Francis Lajba, President and CEO of SCOLA. “We want to make this broad spectrum of information more accessible to our clients, while making the user experience more dynamic and interactive.”
“Attivio’s value in quickly unifying and accessing the traditionally separate silos of enterprise data and content, advanced text analytics and recommendation engine are resonating across an increasingly large group of customers and industries,” states Ali Riaz, President and CEO of Attivio. “We are thrilled to partner with a company of BHMI’s deep experience and are honored to have been selected by an organization of SCOLA’s caliber.”
“BHMI’s relationship with Attivio now extends beyond the scope of this initial project,” states Jack Baldwin, CEO of BHMI. “We have been so impressed with the Attivio team and AIE that we have established a formal partnership. BHMI is planning to use AIE as the unified information access platform for some of the other enterprise software solutions it will be delivering to clients.”
