Palo Alto, CA (PRWEB) July 16, 2012
The Institute of Transpersonal Psychology (ITP) announced today the official re-naming of the school to Sofia University. The decision to re-name the school, made by ITP’s Board of Trustees last February, is the first step in a comprehensive plan to broaden the school’s mission, expand into multiple disciplines and add undergraduate study.
The decision to re-name the school to Sofia University was made by its Board after comprehensive research and consultation on social and economic trends forecast to impact Higher Education as well as trends within Higher Education, Transpersonal Psychology and Transpersonal Studies more broadly defined. All data pointed to the school being best served to remain a sustainable and impactful institution for today and future generations by defining itself as a university and broadening its offerings according to the same mission and values.
Sofia University President, Dr. Neal King, stated, “We are very excited to move forward building upon our distinguished past and becoming the world’s only transpersonal university. We will be offering new programs and deepening our connections in the community, while continuing to champion transformative, transpersonal education.”
Formerly a graduate school with an emphasis on psychology programs, Sofia University will now offer both undergraduate and graduate programs in multiple disciplines. Sofia University will be comprised of three major schools: the Graduate School of Transpersonal Studies, the Graduate School of Clinical & Spiritual Psychology, and the School of Undergraduate Studies. The graduate programs include degrees in Psychology, Women’s Spirituality and Spiritual Guidance. The undergraduate programs will include degrees in in Psychology and Liberal Arts with concentrations in Transpersonal Studies, Business and Leadership, and LGBTQ Studies. Sofia University will also feature Public Programs and events open to the public, which can be attended on a one-off basis.
