Drunk Mario - an online drinking game modeled after Super Mario Bros. - was released to the public this week after several months in development. The parody drinking game is free to play and features 5 levels of action that require players to drink when they make mistakes.

DrinkingGames.ME announced the official launch of its newest online drinking game titled Drunk Mario this week. A parody of the original game, Super Mario Brothers, this video drinking game has been designed and developed by the staff of the Vermont-based company that specializes in beer games and drinking culture and is available for play here: http://drinkinggames.me/online-drinking-games/

For those who are familiar with the original version of the Mario franchise, there are a number of unexpected and comical twists to DrinkingGames.ME's newly released game, while game play remains basically the same. Special features include a cast of bad guys including policemen, bouncers, and a judge. "Beating" these characters requires a unique power, says Russ Hudson, chief designer of the game;

"You have to either avoid them outright, or puke on them."

That's right - instead of shooting fireballs as in the original game, the drunk version features a Mario that vomits on his enemies to defeat them. In fact, in this game it's required, as the height of the "bad guys" is such that a player cannot jump over them.

Other twists to the game include collecting beer cans instead of coins, getting whiskey bottle power-ups instead of traditional Flower Power, and urinating on the flag at the end of each level as opposed to simply jumping on it. Rachel Clark, PR Officer for DrinkingGames.ME, explained the drinking aspect of Drunk Mario, which requires players to drink as a penalty.

"This is a true drinking game." She explained, "When a player is hurt, falls off a cliff or is killed, a special screen pauses the game and instructs them to drink. For people of legal drinking age, this generally includes an alcoholic beverage, but anything or nothing at all can be used and it's still wicked fun."

The underlying premise or "mission" of the game is also quite different but still an obvious parody of the original game. In the drunken version, Mario must rescue what appears to be a prostitute that got kicked out of a bar and jailed for some undisclosed filthy act - a fitting reward for a character that goes around puking and peeing on everything.

Drunk Mario is free to play on the following page of the company's website: http://drinkinggames.me/online-drinking-games/
