The Giving Card is said to be creative, exciting, original and a force to be reckoned with

The Start-up awards recognise achievement across all types of businesses acknowledging innovation, enterprise and the people behind the businesses themselves. The current economic situation makes The Giving Card’s result even more impressive as many start-up companies find it difficult to raise capital or experience commercial success.
Dan, aged 24, is no stranger to awards having already been named as the UK’s ‘Global Student of the Year’ in 2010 as well as one of the ‘Future 100 Young Social Entrepreneurs’ for 2011. Having left University and instead of like many, applying for endless graduate jobs to no avail, he started a nationwide company which helps businesses, supports charities and saves the general public hundreds of pounds every month. Dan explains: “I wanted to be my own boss and as I looked round for a new idea I noticed there was a growing trend, as the recession took hold, for businesses to discount their products and give added value. At the same time the credit squeeze was taking its toll on charities, who were suffering as donations dropped. David Cameron was promoting the Big Society initiative and I thought I could do something that could tick all the right boxes.”
The Giving Card offers discounts across six categories: Food and Drink; Entertainment; Travel and Leisure; Health and Beauty; Retail and Services. It differs from existing discount cards in the market as it is not an industry specific card and can be used in all aspects of life. Cardholders pay an annual membership of just £34.95 – which includes a £10 donation to the charity of their choice, whilst members have access to thousands of offers across the UK.
Businesses across the country can now join the ranks of some of the largest retailers in the UK and offer The Giving Card members attractive discounts for free. Businesses will each receive their own personalised profile page and log-in enabling them to amend and add new offers at their convenience. The Giving Card has also attracted the attention of some of the largest charities in the country who are all potential recipients of each member’s £10 charitable donation.
The Giving Card has seen success with large corporates who have seen the card as either an excellent employee benefit or as a means to promote customer retention. He adds, “With Christmas coming up many employers have seen the value The Giving Card has an employee benefit, as it is a gift that is beneficial to employees by allowing them and their families to save money all year round, as well as one that raises your company’s own CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) credentials. He ends, “It’s great being noticed alongside some fantastic companies who are also in the list, congratulations to all that made it.”
