Cater2.me, the San Francisco based startup connecting hand-selected local food vendors with companies in need of team meals, announces its expansion to New York City, where the initial seeds of the business were sown. Drawing upon the experience of over 800,000 meals to date feeding Silicon Valley, the company is confident that its model will translate well to the hungry denizens of Silicon Alley.
Cater2.me simplifies office catering by giving companies access to a large pool of hand-selected vendors and scheduling orders, dietary restrictions and preferences based on ratings from past orders. Office managers tell them what days and how many people they want to order for and the company takes care of building tailor-made menus whether it's lunch for 60 people Tuesdays & Thursdays or an event for 400.
Co-founders Zach Yungst and Alex Lorton, friends since their freshman year at the University of Pennsylvania, entered the corporate world in New York where they received catered meals through their jobs in banking and consulting. Not content with the standard and repetitive meals they were receiving, Yungst and Lorton began talking to their office managers as well as to local restaurants and street food vendors to discover why the best food from the small local providers wasn’t being brought into their offices. Zach moved to San Francisco in 2008 and quickly noticed a similar trend. Alex joined Zach in San Francisco in 2010 to start Cater2.me and has recently returned to New York to help feed his former office worker colleagues.
Drawing upon firsthand knowledge of the unique logistical problems that New York presents as well as maintaining large networks in New York’s startup and finance communities, Cater2.me is well positioned to take on the Big Apple. The East Coast team has been on the ground since the spring, scouring the city, spending time at local markets such as Smorgasburg and Hester Street Fair, and stalking food trucks in order to partner with the best local catering providers to bring their amazing food to NYC’s offices.
