The town of Oakhurst, just south of Yosemite National Park, is celebrating it's centennial throughout 2012.

We’re looking for ideas from people on what they think best stands for our town for the past 100 years. If it’s something you look at and think ‘That’s Oakhurst’ then chances are it would be perfect

As the small town just south of Yosemite National Park continues to celebrate it’s 100th year, the Centennial Committee of the Oakhurst Area Chamber of Commerce is seeking items to be placed in a time capsule commemorating the milestone.

“As we continue to celebrate this milestone, one of the events we have planned is a ceremony to bury a time capsule by the recently placed monument at Fresno Flats historic park,” said Sandy Brinley, chair of the committee.

“Items can be anything that is representative of the town from the past hundred years,” she said.

Items can be anything like historic or new photographs that depict life in Oakhurst, mementos from events iconic to Oakhurst or anything else that residents feel represents the town.

“We’re looking for ideas from people on what they think best stands for our town for the past 100 years. If it’s something you look at and think ‘That’s Oakhurst’ then chances are it would be perfect for the time capsule,” said Brinley.

The capsule will be buried in an impervious container near the monument commemorating Oakhurst’s centennial recently dedicated by the Clampers.

Items can be dropped off at the Chamber of Commerce at 40637 Highway 41 or at Fresno Flats, near Oak Creek Intermediate School off of School Road. Be sure to include your name and phone number.

If you have ideas about something that should be included, contact the chamber at 559-683-7766.
