Melville, NY (PRWEB) July 16, 2012
Andres Alonso and David Krangle, the founders of Alonso Krangle LLP, a law firm focused on fighting for the rights of injured victims due to product liability, is warning consumers of the serious explosion, fire and burn injury hazards posed by Napa Home & Garden’s “Firelites” Fireburner Firepots used with pourable fuel gel. Last summer, the U.S. Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC) announced a recall of Napa Home & Garden’s NAPAfire and FIREGEL pourable fuel gel used with the company’s Firelites firepots. Consumers who are unaware of this recall may still have these dangerous items in their homes, and are at risk of sustaining serious burn injuries if the Napa Home & Garden firepots and pourable fuel gels are used during outdoor activities this summer. According to Alonso Krangle LLP, the pourable gel fuel used with the Napa Home & Garden firepots can ignite unexpectedly and splatter onto people and objects nearby when it is poured into a firepot that is still burning. Serious accidents have reportedly occurred when consumers were unable to see a flame or were not aware that the firepot is still ignited. Fuel gel that splatters and ignites can pose fire and burn risks to consumers. In June 2011, Georgia-based Napa Home and Garden issued a precautionary hold on sales of its firepots and gel fuel in response to reports of burn injuries. The CPSC announced an official recall of Napa Home & Garden’s NAPAfire and FIREGEL pourable fuel gel just weeks later, after receiving 37 reports of incidents, including 23 burn injuries to consumers. The Napa Home & Garden firepots, which were put on the market in 2008, are comprised of a ceramic pot with a stainless steel cup in the middle that holds the gel fuel. The decorative burning devices are used to repel insects through both the heat of its flame as well as the citronella-scented gel fuel that it burns. The pourable fuel gel is poured into the firepot’s cup and then lit on fire. No wick is needed. Napa Home & Garden sold its exploding firepots and fuel gel at Bed Bath & Beyond, Shopko, Restoration Hardware, specialty and gift shops, furniture stores, and home and garden stores nationwide, as well as through Amazon.com, home and garden catalogs, and home decorators and landscape architects between December 2009 and June 201l.
