4food has declared Friday July 20, 2012 (De)Junk Food Day. To counter National Junk Food Day (July 21), 4food will be joined by nutrition-forward brands in the food community to make an effort towards raising awareness for nutritionally sound food choices. The first-ever (De)Junk Food Day will also promote healthy snacks in the market place.
Over the past 20 years, obesity levels have doubled in the United States. In New York City alone, more than half of New Yorkers are at an unhealthy weight, putting them at an increased risk for diabetes, heart disease, stroke, and a number of other chronic diseases and associated mortalities. According to a recent survey conducted by the New York City Department of Health & Mental Hygiene, 34% of adult New Yorkers are overweight, 22% are obese, and nearly half of all elementary school children are not at a healthy weight; 1 in 5 NYC kindergarten students are clinically obese. Fortunately, obesity is preventable, which is exactly what 4food and friends intend to help demonstrate through the distribution of healthy snacks to the public.
On Friday from 11AM - 2PM, 4food guests will be able to visit the inaugural (De)Junk Food Snack Bar. The iPad station at 4food’s 286 Madison Avenue location will be transformed into a sanctuary of snacking sanity. Guests will be treated to complimentary 4food Smoothies and samples of amazing treats from Peeled Snacks, Little Duck Organics, Kopali Chocolates, Acme Smoked Fish, Popchips, and Vermont Smoke & Cure.
After sampling all the gratis goodies, guests can then feast on 4food’s chef built or custom created (W)holeburgers, Rice Bowls, and Salad Bowls filled with their choice of fresh, nutritious, and diverse offerings such as Chipotle Hominy, Roasted Brussels, and Spinach & Garlic to name a few.

To reduce our carbon footprint we utilize energy-saving fixtures and equipments, such as solar shades to control interior temperatures and the expenditure of electricity. In addition, our kitchen employs an Orca Green® self-contained bioreactor that decomposes food and biodegradable waste into water, drastically reducing our contribution to the city’s nearly one million tons of waste produced each year.
