Medical and dental device manufacturers can now apply polytetrefluoroethylene (PTFE) or silicone coatings seamlessly with the Baron Blakeslee Lab Koat series coater. The Lab Koat is the smallest coater of its kind, and it can be customized to meet industry specific needs.

The Lab Koat is often used in the medical field to apply PTFE (polytetrefluoroethylene) or silicone coatings for lubricity. The Lab Koat can be used in conjunction with MicroCare Medical’s Duraglide for a smooth, consistent coating on medical tools. The Lab Koat can be used on a variety of objects, including, but not limited to the following:

  • Needles
  • Stents
  • Blades
  • Surgical Staples
  • Catheters

The Lab Koat offers many benefits because of its unique design. The coater is able to apply a consistent coating, so the devices coated will last longer and actuate more smoothly. The Lab Koat minimizes labor costs because the machine speeds up the coating process, which used to be done by hand.

The company also produces electronics coaters that apply a thin, even layer of fluorocarbon solvent soluble polymer conformal coating. This coater also features a refrigeration component to minimize evaporation and an ultra low speed hoist to further ensure a consistent coating.

Baron Blakeslee creates custom coaters that are designed according to the parts that require coating applications. Specialized material handling is designed to handle parts on unusual geometric angles and/or packaging, as well as objects that only need partial coating. The coaters aim to confine, conserve and recycle expensive carrier fluids to minimize costs. The coaters are environmentally friendly, and the machines keep the coating solutions mixed and provide material handling solutions for accurate and repeatable coating deposition processes. The electronics coater deposits a fluorocarbon solvent soluble acrylic polymer. A circuit board coated using the electronics coater lasts longer and is less subject to detrimental environmental factors.
