The reason so many PGA Tour professionals have homes in Jupiter is the great golfing the area offers. BallenIsles in Palm Beach Gardens boasts three championship courses.

An exciting, sudden-death playoff between Zach Johnson and Troy Matteson capped the John Deere Classic in Silvis, Ill., with Johnson shooting in a birdie putt for the win.

Johnson and Matteson, tied for first at the end of the fourth round, played two additional holes, both on the 18th, that saw each player swing into the water and out of the bunker. Johnson hit his second-to-last shot of the day from the sand trap and rolled it to less than a foot away from the pin, pretty much guaranteeing a victory.

The finish marked the 2007 Masters winner’s second win of 2012 and moved him to second place in the FedEx Cup standings, trailing Jupiter Island, Fla., resident and Tiger Woods.

While Woods did not play in the John Deere Classic, three other Palm Beach County pros did. Tom Gillis, 44, of Jupiter, finished at nine under par. Gillis’ final round of 71 put him in 36th place with eight other players: Roland Thatcher, Carl Pettersson, Bill Lunde, Jerry Kelly, Josh Teater, Spencer Levin, Chad Campbell and Tim Clark.

Jamie Lovemark, 24, also of Jupiter, tied in 45th place with Kevin Chappell, Vaughn Taylor, Randall Hutchison, Mark Wilson, Duffy Waldorf, Y.E. Yang, Ricky Barnes and Jeff Maggert. Lovemark’s final round of 75 left him at eight under par.

Camilo Villegas, who won the 2010 Honda Classic in Palm Beach Gardens, finished up in the Quad Cities at six under par. Villegas, 30, tied for 58th place with Marco Dawson, Hunter Haas, Jordan Spieth, Chris Riley, Martin Flores, Steve Wheatcroft and Matt Every.

The Colombian native also calls Jupiter home.
