The Whiteface Lodge Celebrates The 2012 Games With A Food And Beverage“Olympic” Competition; 10 Percent of Proceeds to Benefit the Olympic Regional Development Authority

To celebrate the 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London, the Whiteface Lodge, Lake Placid, has created a "US versus UK Pub-Themed Food and Beverage Competition." The contest is also a reminder of Lake Placid's rich Olympic heritage as it hosted the 1932 and 1980 Winter Olympic Games.Guests of the Lodge's popular Kanu Lounge who choose to participate in the "Olympic Contest" must select either an American-themed pub meal / beer combination or a British-themed pub meal / beer combination. Each participant submits a ticket into a final drawing where one lucky winner will receive a $100 American Express Gift Card. Ten percent of the gross sales from the Olympic Pub Competition will be donated to Lake-Placid based ORDA, the Olympic Regional Development Authority. The Pub Competition kicks off on Friday, July 27th and continues through Sunday, August 12, 2012-- the official dates of the London Games.

Located in Lake Placid, an area renowned for its rich Olympic heritage, and in celebration of the 2012 London Summer Games, the Whiteface Lodge today announced a festive food and beverage-inspired Olympic competition, "A Festive Mood and Championship Food."

While watching or discussing the many dramatic moments of the 2012 London Summer Games, Whiteface Lodge guests and local Lake Placid-area residents are invited to participate in the competitive Olympic spirit by enjoying a contest in Kanu Lounge. Specifically, the Lodge’s fun food and beverage Olympic-themed competition is a contest between a traditional US pub-styled dish and beer -- a “Lodge Kilcoyne Burger with Smoked Bacon and Blue Cheese paired with a Samuel Adams Boston Lager – and a British pub-styled meal – “Bangers and Mash paired with Samuel Smith Pale Ale.” The competition begins on Friday, July 27 and continues through Sunday, August 12, 2012 (the official dates of the London Summer Games).

Kanu Lounge visitors who order the UK-inspired Pub Combination will receive a blue ticket and those that select the US Pub burger / beer combination will receive a red ticket. Each Olympic themed Pub food / beer combination is $19.00 (without taxes).

Participants will write down their name, phone number and email address on their specific ticket and place it in a bowl on the Kanu Lounge bar area. At the culmination of the Olympics, a name will be drawn from all of the collected tickets and one lucky winner will receive a $100 American Express Gift Card.

“Olympic hopefuls spend many months each year training in Lake Placid and at least ten of these superb athletes work at the Whiteface Lodge," said Kyle Hamill, Regional Director of Marketing for Urgo Hotels. Ten-percent of the gross sales from the Olympic Pub Competition will be donated to the Olympic Regional Development Authority or ORDA. In turn, ORDA will use these funds to benefit all of the local Olympic facilities in the Lake Placid area, such as the Olympic Jumping Complex, Olympic Center, Olympic Sports Complex and Whiteface Mountain. These venues are utilized year-round for both elite training and visitor recreation.

Lake Placid previously hosted both the 1932 and the1980 Olympic Winter Games. Following the 1980 Olympics, New York State created the Olympic Regional Development Authority to maintain and promote the facilities. For over 30 years since the games, ORDA has played a vital role in attracting the world’s attention to the Adirondacks and acting as an economic engine for Upstate New York. Through relationships with surrounding communities and national and international sporting federations, Lake Placid has been recognized as a “model city” for post Olympic success.
