Chinese students can benefit from Canada’s world-class K-12 education system while they are studying in our offshore schools.

The Education Division of Eminata Group, the largest private providers of independent post-secondary education in Canada, has just signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Taishan City, a coastal county-level city in southern Guangdong province, People's Republic of China.

The MOU provides a framework to establish the construction of an offshore Canadian School in Taishan City to meet the local demand for international education.

“Chinese students can benefit from Canada’s world-class K-12 education system while they are studying in our offshore schools,“ said Dr. Peter Chung, the chairman of the Eminata Group.

Chinese students will attend BC or Alberta certified offshore schools and graduate with a Chinese-Canadian dual diploma, which will help qualify them for admission to North American universities.

China’s long-term education reform and development plan (2010-20) places great emphasis on opening Chinese education to the outside world through collaboration. Taishan City will serve as a benchmark for the partnership with Eminata in a number of areas designed to create mutual economic opportunities and encourage educational exchange.

The offshore Canadian school is win-win for all involved. The school will enrich the learning experiences of Chinese students and help the Chinese Government meet their education objectives, while generating significant social, cultural and economic benefits for Canadian communities by bringing Canadian educated Chinese students to Canada.

Taishan City
Often referred to as "The home of overseas Chinese", the first Chinese to settle in North America were predominantly Taishanese. Almost all the Chinatowns established in Canada and the United States, including some of the oldest and largest ones in Vancouver, Toronto, and San Francisco, were established by Taishanese.

First arriving to the west coast of Canada and the United States in the mid-to-late 19th century, Taishanese helped build the Canadian railroad in the late 19th century. The Taishanese community continues to flourish in Canada, the United States and elsewhere. Of note, former Governor General Adrienne Clarkson is a highly recognizable person of Taishanese descent.
