A heart-rending journey, from an unpredictable in an orphanage to adolescent independence

“My story illustrates that whatever the time and place, the human heart, with its sorrows and its joys, remains the same and that with determination one can overcome challenges and grow into a useful, happy and contented human being.”

“Growing up an orphan, I found myself adrift in life, belonging to no one, with no family tree, no roots, no history, no ancestry,” explains author Su Anne Sherry. When her grandchildren began asking questions she could not answer about her lineage, she decided to write her own history for them, penning the new memoir of one woman’s inspiring journey, “My Three Lost Girls: How I Reclaimed Them from My Heart’s Netherworld” (published by iUniverse).

“My book is a heart-rending, often humorous, account of my pilgrimage from an unpredictable beginning in an orphanage, to adolescent independence,” Sherry explains, “and then discovering the power of learning love and feeling finally what it meant to be loved.”

An excerpt from “My Three Lost Girls”:

“There was also much about the home that I would miss. I would miss the grove, my tree, bath day—and most of all, Lorraine. For the most part, I realized, I had been happy in the home. I had learned many things: to endure without complaint, to work hard, to hope, to take responsibility. I trusted that these hard-won qualities would sustain me in my new life. Sister Mary John was right. I had much to be thankful for. I closed my eyes, and, in silent prayer, begged God to help me be a good girl. I asked him to show me how to make the Krugers like me, maybe even, someday, grow to love me—just as Mrs. Platt did—once upon a time.”

“My story illustrates that whatever the time and place, the human heart, with its sorrows and its joys, remains the same and that with determination one can overcome challenges and grow into a useful, happy and contented human being.”
