Padraic Dempsey’s book Hidden Cost was written to convey the mindset of quality leadership as a business opportunity, not just a select area for academics. Quality development is a real business opportunity for any company. The intention is to simplify cost of poor quality (COPQ) and take the mystery out of the subject in order to open the concept to a wider audience.

Any company can make this journey, but it takes commitment and it takes leadership. The tools and techniques can all be learned but the mindset has to be somehow gained through experience, both good and bad. This book reveals both the good and bad as well as providing an infrastructure for the opportunities that lay ahead for you, should you choose to follow them.

Written in "in your face" fashion, the Kaizen diaries provide unique insight into what factory floor improvements and common resistances look and feel like and show that prestige free does work, if companies dare to trust the tools and believe in their greatest asset – their people.

About the Author
Padraic Dempsey was born in Ireland in 1971 into a farming background. The youngest of four children who typically learned to work at an early age, the author has parlayed those early values into a resume that might be called a modern classic in business. From that early background on industrial farming methods and the lessons he learned from hardworking owners, he went on to study Deming, learned all about the management greats (like Taylor, Maslow, and Ohno). He earned his Six Sigma Master Black Belt in Stockholm and applied this together with Lean practices and Kaizen event management to become one of the leading resource persons on COPQ. Hidden Cost is a masterful but no-nonsense work that should be a classic in the field. He has worked as Lean coach for Black Belts and Green Belts with over 15 years of extensive experience in areas of Supply Chain management, Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, Quality Strategy Implementation and Kaizen event management in businesses across the world. Among the companies he’s worked for are Flextronics, IKEA, and ABB. He’s been at the crest of the wave of management wizards born of the Irish economic boom.
