Understanding consumer behavior and stimulating consumer interest are the lynchpins of successful retail management. Two new bachelor’s degree programs at Southern New Hampshire University – the Bachelor of Science in retail management degree and the Bachelor of Science in fashion merchandising management – teach students these skills, giving them an in-depth understanding of how to plan, market and merchandise in retail environments.
The new online retail management degree program exposes students to a core program in retail management topics and enables them to customize their program with electives that reflect their specific interests. This flexibility is particularly beneficial to students who are currently working in retail and know where they want to focus their studies. The retail management degree internship delivers valuable merchandising experience, giving students the opportunity to apply what they have learned while they pursue their careers in retail.
“SNHU’s fashion merchandising degree program is taught by innovative faculty who truly understand the fashion marketplace,” said Dina Frutos, associate dean of undergraduate business at SNHU. “Students in our retail management degree program will focus on marketing, business and consumer behavior and also learn about emerging trends and technology, entrepreneurship and the global consumer culture.”
Students working on their SNHU fashion merchandising degree, online or through a combination of online and classroom learning become immersed in the exciting world of fashion merchandising. From color and textile theory and sustainability to merchandise management strategies and sales forecasting, students get an inside look at the fashion marketplace. The hands-on experience students gain from the fashion merchandising internship can help them transition into full-time fashion and retail career opportunities.
Earning a retail management degree or fashion merchandising degree online can position graduates of these SNHU programs to take advantage of growing opportunities in these career fields. Employment of retail sales managers is expected to increase 12 percent through 2020, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. In the fashion industry, employment of first-line supervisors in clothing and accessory stores is expected to increase by nearly 20 percent in this period. SNHU students and alumni have gone on to work for a number of well-known retail companies, capitalizing on their knowledge and experience in retail management and merchandising for successful careers in retail.
