For The Second Consecutive Year, School Receives Top ISAT Score of City’s 56 Charters

NEW YORK, July 17, 2012 – For the second consecutive year, Chicago International Charter School’s (CICS) Irving Park Campus received the highest overall ISAT scores among the city’s 56 charter schools, data released yesterday showed.

More than nine out of 10 students at CICS Irving Park met or exceeded grade-level expectations in all three subjects that were tested: Math, Reading, and Science.

“We applaud the students and staff members at the Chicago International Charter School’s Irving Park Campus for their hard work and tremendous results,” said James Stovall, CEO of Victory Education Partners, which manages CICS Irving Park. “We are particularly proud that the school has ranked at the top of the charter class for two consecutive years, proving that the success of this program is long-lasting and consistent.”

Beth Purvis, CEO of Chicago International Charter School, echoes Stovall’s excitement: “We are encouraged by CICS Irving Park’s continued success. Not only has CICS Irving Park achieved these consistently high ISAT results, they have also closed the achievement gap in both reading and math, which is a remarkable accomplishment. Most importantly, the culture and climate of this school is preparing our students for success in college and beyond.”

Victory began working with CICS in 2007, partnering to launch its Irving Park Campus and later managing the CICS Basil campus. In its role, Victory assumes all management responsibilities of the school, including implementing its proprietary academic support plan and professional development for teachers. In 2011, Victory was awarded management of CICS Washington Park and CICS Avalon campuses as well.

On this year’s test, more CICS Irving Park students met or exceeded grade-level expectations in reading and science than last year, and the number of students meeting or exceeding that benchmark in math this year came in at an impressive 94.1 percent.

“These results were only possible due to the tremendous dedication and effort put forth by the students, teachers and staff every day of the past year,” said Janet Heiman, Director at CICS Irving Park. “However proud we are, our work is not done. We will not rest until each and every student who graduates from our school is prepared for middle school, high school, college and beyond.”
