Event will focus on critical issues and opportunities facing the biomedical community.

CHI-California Healthcare Institute announced today that registration is now open for its annual meeting, CHI 2012. CHI’s annual meeting focuses on the relationship between biomedical innovation and public policy. The goal of the meeting is to focus on the biomedical community’s work and needs, and how the industry can sustain California’s leadership in medical innovation.

The event, taking place Thursday, Nov. 8, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., on the Gilead Sciences Campus in Foster City, will bring together hundreds of leading executives from biotechnology, medical device and pharmaceutical companies, as well as leaders from the state’s academic research community with policy makers to discuss critical issues and opportunities facing the biomedical community.

“As CHI approaches our 20th anniversary, we hope this event will serve as a forum for generating ideas to support and strengthen the biomedical community in California,” said CHI President and CEO David L. Gollaher, Ph.D. “While California’s engine for biomedical creativity leads the world, we confront an extraordinarily challenging political and economic environment.”

The forum is intended for top-level biomedical industry executives, leaders from California's academic research community, entrepreneurs, investors, federal and state policy makers, members of the media and key federal, state and local legislative staff.

The full agenda will be revealed next month. CHI has confirmed the following speakers:

  • David Beier, senior vice president of global government affairs, communications and philanthropy, Amgen
  • Dr. Scott Gottleib, resident fellow of the American Enterprise Institute
  • Coleen Klasmeier, partner with Sidley Austin LLP
