For the last nine years Sureway International has sponsored Paint the Town Red, an event held in Port Credit, Ontario in honor of Canada Day. Sureway International was proud to be able to sponsor this celebration again in 2012. Paint the Town Red invited local Canadians to celebrate Canada Day with a parade, barbeque, live music, a cake cutting ceremony, and fireworks. Canada Day is the celebration of Canadian independence from Britain and the federation of four provinces – Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Ontario and Quebec. "Sureway International is committed to giving back to its community and Canada. It is a top priority for this proud Canadian owned and operated company."
The day began with a parade of fanfare, floats, and marching bands with Grand Marshals Mayor Hazel McCallion and football Hall of Famer Chuck Ealy. The Xtreme Food Drive Cart also made an appearance, collecting non-perishable food goods for the Mississauga Food Bank. The parade was followed by a kids-eat-free barbeque with a magic show and a chance to win Blue Jays tickets. At the Canada Flag Cake Cutting Ceremony Mary McKay sang O’Canada and free cake was provided. There were bouncy castles, cupcake decorating, chalk art, paint ball and pony rides for children.
Students of Lowe’s School of Music performed at The Lighthouse for family, friends, and a huge crowd of fellow Canadians. Two guitarists from this school were accepted into the Regional Arts Program at Cawthra Park Secondary School, a true honor as this school only accepts two guitarists a year. Meanwhile at The Army Navy Club, there was a live dance party barbeque for families with dancing in the parking lot.
At Port Credit Memorial Park there was a free concert commenced by square dancing to the music of Dave Barrow. Appearances were also made by the Shirtless Bros, Moondance – a Van Morrison tribute band, and Start the Car. This was followed by performances from Lady GaGa, Tom Jones, Rod Stewart, Bee Gees, and Chicago tribute bands. The night ended with Mary McKay singing O’Canada and a festive fireworks display.
Sureway International has been a sponsor of the Paint the Town Red event for the last nine years and is proud to have been able to give back to and celebrate with their community this past Canada Day.
