TeamGB have announced a number of celebrity ambassadors including Dermot O’Leary, Davina McCall and Alesha Dixon. The celebrities are part of a campaign to create the biggest support for the British Olympic team ever. In an attempt to go one step further they also launched a search for an outstanding British cheerleading team to represent Great Britain in the run up and during the Olympic Games. During the games the TeamGB cheerleaders will make appearances at the official live sites and stir up support from the crowds at the Olympic park. Their first appearance will be to spur on TeamGB during the friendly match against Brazil on Friday 20th July in Middlesbrough.
Teams entered the competition by submitting a short performance video and from there a shortlist of five teams were decided. Voting for the winning team took place between Monday 13th July and Wednesday 18th July at 18:00. On the 16th July video submission was closed and judges shortlisted five British teams; North London Wildcats, Panache Bullettes, The Crystals, BBL Babes and Sheffield Hallam Cheer. A vote was held on MSNUK; where the public could watch the short video entries of the top five teams and vote for their favourite, providing the British public with a chance to sway the judge’s vote, which was made on Wednesday 18th July by Alesha Dixon.
Another Olympic highlight is the decision to include British models in the Olympic closing ceremony which will take place on Sunday 12TH August. Models including Kate Moss, Lily Cole and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley will be displaying the best of British fashion by designers such as Vivienne Westwood and Alexander McQueen, during the ceremony titled “A symphony of British Music.”
