Sonya Hamilton’s generous gift will give several of the children, in the Mentoring Matters initiative, an opportunity to have a positive and fun experience that they otherwise might not have.
Jamestown, NC (PRWEB) July 19, 2012
As a part of United Way of Greater Greensboro’s initiative, a mentoring program was launched last fall at Wiley Elementary School in central Greensboro and it is continuing this program into the summer, where 53 disadvantaged boys in 2nd-5th grades, have been matched up with committed volunteer mentors. These mentors donate their time and typically use their own money to take the boys out for sporting events, outings and special programs.
Sonya Hamilton has lived in the Triad for 12 years and has been an active supporter in the community. She is also celebrating her 25th year with State Farm Insurance. Sonya chose the United Way of Greater Greensboro’s Mentoring Matters initiative to support this summer and when asked why, she said, “The youth is our future and the United Way has many good programs that support the Triad's youth.” Her various community efforts also include being a Greensboro Chamber of Commerce Member, a Greensboro Housing Coalition Volunteer, and a United Way volunteer.
Frank McCain, Vice President of Community Investment at United Way of Greater Greensboro, stated, “Sonya Hamilton’s generous gift will give several of the children, in the Mentoring Matters initiative, an opportunity to have a positive and fun experience that they otherwise might not have. This is a perfect example of how businesses in the community can respond to children in need.”
