So many incredible inventions are turning 10 this year: the wireless headset, the Braille glove, a dog translator called “bowlingual”, the Cindy Smart Doll, the robot vacuum, a prototype of the phone tooth (which can be inserted in a molar and make phone calls) and the now ubiquitous virtual keyboard. 2002 was clearly a fruitful year for innovation. Here’s another significant development of 2002: translation agency Acclaro was founded in New York by a few rising stars in the localization industry.

Acclaro U.S. offices will be celebrating the 10th anniversary this September and in preparation for the festivities, the marketing group has launched a blog series on 10 things to love about Acclaro. The interactive, Flash-based series features fanciful themes such as the 10 best restaurants in New York and San Francisco, managers’ quirkiest pastimes and 10 items that employees would take to a desert island. The first installment in the series, published this morning on the Acclaro blog, reveals the names and outlandish hobbies of the 10 top movers and shakers at Acclaro.

“We wanted to show the public the more human side of Acclaro in this 10th anniversary series,” explains Acclaro VP of Operations and Sales Ora Solomon. “The whimsical, fun-loving side of our managers comes across in this first blog post, and it’s a true reflection of our company culture—diverse, dynamic, energetic and playful.”

Today’s blog post counts down from the tenth to the number one biggest player at Acclaro. These 10 individuals designed and implemented the state-of-the-art services and innovations that set Acclaro apart in the translation and localization space. But though these managers are akin to localization superheroes, the bat-men and cat-women of the translation industry, they are still human, and the blog sheds a little light on their out-of-uniform personalities.
