Lake Garda’s Limone; A Summer Holiday Haven

Share Article

Crystal Summer explain why Limone, Lake Garda, is the ideal summer holiday destination.

Lake Garda holidays offer spectacular scenery varying dramatically from one end of the lake to the other. Crystal Summer, who offer breaks to resorts around Lake Garda, describe the landscapes in the south as rolling hills, filled with vineyards, fruit orchards and olive groves, whilst at the northern end the landscape is mountainous and rocky. Dotted along this varying shoreline are many towns to explore each offering a wealth of history and culture in beautiful surroundings and Mediterranean climate. Dining out is a treat here too; classic Italian dishes get regional twists according to local produce. Around Lake Garda mushrooms, asparagus and truffles grow in abundance making the perfect accompaniment to risottos, while the olive groves produce rich extra virgin olive oil.

The town of Limone, on the north-western shore, has a striking mountain backdrop. Colourful buildings are set around two small picturesque harbours and along narrow cobbled streets offering elegant shops and delightful cafés. As well as the town, the Limonaia del Castèl, the old lemon grove, should also be explored; here old lemon gardens, walled terraces with stone columns, can be wandered around at leisure. Besides lemons, Limone also produces olives on an industrial scale. An exhibition, for which, is devoted solely to the local olive groves and oil-making process in the town's olive-oil mill. The "Serata di suoni e sapori nell'uliveto" is an evening of sounds and flavours in the olive grove; visitors walk amongst the olive groves to the sound of music, and enjoy recipes made from simple ingredients that are still used in the local cuisine. If that is not enough there are also regular classical and brass band concerts and occasional spectacular firework displays over the lake.
