The University of Texas at Austin has hired Austin-based water filtration experts American Water to install state-of-the-art Kinetico drinking water solutions in The University of Texas’ new Belo Center for New Media. When the Belo Center opens at the end of the month, ten filtered drinking water stations will be accessible to students and faculty. High efficiency ice makers will also be available in each breakroom.

Summer Dehydration Concerns

With summer weather heating up, it is increasingly important to stay hydrated. Dehydration is one of the leading causes of preventable hospitalizations. According to the Texas Department of State Health Services, between 2005 and 2010, there were over 84,000 hospitalizations due to dehydration in Texas, resulting in nearly $1.5 billion in hospital charges.

Recommendations

American Water urges homeowners to have readily available drinking water throughout the year, especially during the summer season. Commercial properties and institutions are also urged to provide filtered drinking water and ice to keep guests and employees hydrated and cool.
