Pro Bono Assistance Offered to Florida Property Taxpayers

Florida property tax firm Harris Diaz LLC now offers assistance at no charge, reducing 2012 property tax burden of less fortunate families, rental property owners and businesses.

Florida property tax advisory firm Harris Diaz LLC has launched a new program designed to assist Florida’s hardest hit property taxpayers at no charge. “Many homeowners and business owners need professional assistance in appealing their property tax liability. A tax bill that may have seemed manageable just a few years ago suddenly seems enormous when a family member has been unable to work. A long established family business may have fallen on hard times due to illness of a loved one. We specialize in property tax issues and we want them to have an opportunity to receive professional property tax representation,” says David Walle, property tax advisor with Harris Diaz LLC. If an assessment is higher than it should be, the result is a property tax bill which is also too high. Representation by the firm may include conferences with local government property appraisers. When appropriate, Harris Diaz will also present pro bono property tax cases before a Value Adjustment Board or special magistrate. “We want everybody to have a chance to participate and enjoy the same professional representation all our clients receive,” says Walle.

Interested taxpayers should visit harrisdiaz.com and go to the area labeled "Pro Bono". Walle points out that phone calls won’t be helpful since they only review inquiries from across Florida by email or fax. Property taxpayers with no internet access are encouraged to seek assistance from a friend or through their local public library. When applying, applicants should provide a brief statement concerning the circumstances of their business or household. “Sometimes a case needs representation. But collecting payment might further burden taxpayers already in especially difficult circumstances.” Forms on the website will require the applicants’ signatures. “We encourage applicant’s to apply now, rather than wait for the property notices (‘TRIM’ notice) they will receive in late August. The clock is ticking and we need time to prepare a case and file a petition for appeal.”

Harris Diaz has pledged up to 10% of its resources during the 2012 property tax season to be applied toward these pro bono cases.
