To assist schools with implementing their upcoming edtech plans, Lightspeed Systems recently announced the Top Five Summer Projects for IT staff and educators—five ways to prepare the network and the classroom for the upcoming school year.

Lightspeed Systems is excited to partner with schools to improve the overall education experience. Helping districts set, meet, and exceed their learning goals is a priority for the educational technology company. To assist schools with implementing their upcoming edtech plans, Lightspeed Systems recently announced the Top Five Summer Projects for IT staff and educators—five ways to prepare the network and the classroom for the upcoming school year.

1. Implement My Big Campus
Schools across the country are realizing the need for safe online learning and collaboration in the classroom and beyond. My Big Campus provides a district-wide, monitored solution made exclusively for K12 education. The safe social learning platform ends overblocking for teachers, provides a safe community for collaboration and teaching digital citizenship, simplifies classroom management, advances K12 professional development, and helps teachers enhance learning for students. Summer is an ideal time to implement My Big Campus so it is ready to be used in classrooms when school starts. Lightspeed Systems makes the set-up process simple with easy to understand policies, SIS integration, and comprehensive user training.

2. Mobilize your learning plan
Mobile devices are becoming more and more accepted in today’s schools. However, without an effective plan to manage them, filter them, and use them to provide access to an educational platform, mobile devices can be just another classroom distraction. Lightspeed Systems has compiled a comprehensive mobile device resource page, to help educators ensure the devices are an effective component of their districts’ learning plan. In addition, the recently released Mobile Manager makes mobile device management simple, keeps devices and the network safe, and ensures mobile learning programs are successful

3. Save energy – save money
Energy is wasted and money is lost on unused, unattended computers. Lightspeed Power Management provides sustainable energy savings across your network by monitoring energy usage and directing low-power states and shutdown times. Utility cost-savings of up to $75 per PC per year are documented with detailed reports. For more information regarding Power Management, read this informative guide.

4. Plan Internet Safety Training
Effective July 1, 2012, CIPA now requires districts to teach students about appropriate online behavior. Summer is a great time to ensure districts have a plan in place to educate students on digital citizenship. In another effort to partner with schools, Lightspeed Systems has prepared CIPA resources to guide schools through this change and help ensure districts are following the new policy.

5. Acceptable Use Policies update
Acceptable Use Policies are essential for an effective technology plan. Yet because of various reasons, many AUP’s are incomplete and out of date. Lightspeed Systems strongly believes that a smart technology plan means a smart learning plan. The company is committed to providing schools the resources and assistance they need to develop a comprehensive AUP to ensure successful learning in a safe online environment. This information paper provides IT staff the tools they need to create a comprehensive and current AUP, covering topics relevant to today’s schools.

“We know IT staff and educators do not stop working and planning over the summer,” shares Amy Bennett, VP Marketing at Lightspeed Systems. “And neither do we. Lightspeed is dedicated to working with schools to make sure their network is prepared and they have the necessary tools in place to accomplish their learning goals. This project list provides a great foundation for schools to better prepare for the new year."
