If retailers stopped and talked to the right people about how to implement these systems and how to foster all of this data in the right place, they’ll see that the barriers to entry are actually quite low and the ROI is quite high.

David Weiner, highly-regarded expert on retailer business solutions and loyalty, said on a podcast posted today on retail thought leadership site What’s Next Retail that retailers are absolutely not making the best usage of their business systems to optimize customer loyalty. He did say, however, there are things retailers could start doing immediately to optimize their business systems to improve customer loyalty and, thus, increase sales.
Weiner, CEO of Cole Systems, a leading business systems solution provider based in New York City, said that the first thing retailers need is an integrated environment.
“There needs to be at least one place where you can look that ties together multi-channel transactions such as on-line purchases and in-store purchases together with social media and in-store activity. Without all the information in one place, a retailer cannot effectively take the steps necessary to build loyalty in today’s retail world,” he said.
Weiner said that unfortunately, the majority of retailers are not taking advantage of the capabilities in current business systems. “I think those retailers are not because they see the barriers to entry as too high. But if they actually stopped and talked to the right people about how to implement these systems and how to foster all of this data in the right place, they’ll see that the barriers to entry are actually quite low and the ROI is the only part that’s quite high.”
Weiner discussed how the business solutions available today, such as Microsoft Dynamics AX for Retail, are allowing retailers to maximize the ever-growing movement to user mobile usage. “Business systems really are starting to become standardized with ways to incorporate social media and mobile information. By having the sales transactions tied together with social trends, such as music and movie preference, likes and dislikes, and even consumers’ friends, retailers can get to know their customers and better understand how to interact with them.”
